What's New? ColorStuff.ai, DDoS Mitigation, and More

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Over two years, actually. It turns out raising three young kids keeps you quite busy—too busy for side projects, including this blog. So what have I been up to?

I Launched a New Product: ColorStuff.ai

The biggest news is the launch of a small side project, ColorStuff.ai. ColorStuff is an AI-powered coloring page generator. Working on ColorStuff has been awesome because it showed my daughters “what the robots can build if you talk to them nice,” and they had a lot of fun creating coloring pages with it as well.

ColorStuff

ColorStuff started in 2023 when my kids and I began using ChatGPT (specifically DALL-E) to create custom coloring pages. What began as a way to entertain my three little ones quickly evolved into something I realized could benefit other families too.

The cool part about ColorStuff is that it was almost completely implemented using AI—Claude 3.5 Sonnet, specifically. Don’t take my word for it though, just check out some of my chat history with Claude:

New Professional Challenge: Deepfield Nokia

On the professional front, I joined Deepfield Nokia in summer 2023, where I’m working on DDoS mitigation solutions. It’s been fascinating to step into the cybersecurity space and tackle problems at scale. The work is challenging, involves lots of Python (which you know I love), and has been a tremendous learning experience.

Game Dev When I Can

Despite dipping my toes in SaaS, I haven’t abandoned game development. I’ve got a couple of projects slowly taking shape in my (increasingly limited) spare time. No major announcements yet, but stay tuned—I’m hoping to share more concrete updates in the coming months.

I had thought game development would be on pause for me much longer. Fortunately, AI and LLMs became the exact tools I needed to work on games again. After a workday and putting my kids to bed, I’m usually exhausted. Now I just need to talk to Cursor and the code starts flowing.

Looking Forward

Building ColorStuff has reminded me that I love to build and ship products. Whether it’s helping families create personalized coloring books, protecting networks from DDoS attacks, or crafting game experiences, the creative process remains endlessly satisfying. However, I still strongly prefer making games to any other creative endeavor. 😆

Going forward, I plan to write more about building in public and fewer programming tutorials. I hope to update this blog more consistently, sharing the journey of building side projects and the lessons learned along the way.

Until next time (which hopefully won’t be another two years!)

Welp, see ya later
